"Summer afternoon - summer afternoon; to me, those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English Language."

~ Henry James

Dear THSC Friend,

Weatherwise, summer is in full swing! Around our area of Texas, it isn't uncommon for it to hit 100 degrees before noon.

I don't know about you, but when we try to do summery things outdoors, we find ourselves longingly looking toward the house and air conditioning...

air conditioner

I'd like to take this opportunity to give a shout-out to Willis Carrier, the inventor of the air conditioner!

🥳Yay for him!

Because we are homeschoolers - yes, there is a unit study on him and on his inventions!

🌞Here are some fun ways to incorporate that sunny, summer vibe while not venturing out into the heat.

Summer Reading Programs

If your kids are reading a lot anyway, why not win prizes while doing it?

Bookstores, libraries, and some restaurants often have summer reading programs for kids .
