With such a growing number of homeschoolers across America - with some polls showing up to10% of students! - there are a growing number of dads who have taken on the responsibility of homeschooling their children.
The stereotype of the homeschool dad being the mostly-symbolic principal is a thing of the past…
Every homeschooling family is different, and the combination of parents who teach the homeschool - whether it’s mom and dad splitting different subjects, a rotation of both, grandparents helping, a co-op, tutors, etc. - can be just as unique.
Sometimes dads get a bad rap as the parent who is the most resistant to homeschooling or the parent who helps the least, but I definitely beg to differ on that!
My husband gets the credit for us starting to homeschool in the first place, and he is really active in helping to keep things going. I appreciate his support so much.
🤔If you were to guess, what percentage of stay-at-home parents would you wager were dads?
📈In this issue of the Home Educator Express, we are featuring an article by author David Bracher - he points out that research shows that up to 17% of stay-at-home-parents are dads!
🤗He talks about the distinctive challenges that stay-at-home dads face and gives practical ways to master them. Please check it out and share it with anyone who might need some encouragement!
👨We also are featuring two other dad-centered articles!
🧰🔨One is about how to involve dads better in homeschooling when the mom is the main teacher.
👪The other is about how much of a profound impact that one dad can have on the next generations in a family.
I hope these ideas help you create an environment of joy in your home and in your homeschool overall.

“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” -James 5:7-8

My mindset on parenting changed substantially when my wife was offered a teaching position here in Texas. The position meant I would go from the financial provider to the emotional and education provider for my daughter.
This challenge is one that many more fathers are facing, as a Pew Research study showed that as of 2016, the
number of stay at homes fathers made up 17% of the total stay-at-home parents. This statistic shows that ideas about traditional parenting are changing, and it is something that we as a society need to face head-on and understand.
A friend of mine, a mom, once told me, “We homeschool. And when I say, ‘We home school,’ it’s kind of like saying, ‘We’re pregnant.’”
Everywhere in our culture, we are being fed the line that dads don’t matter. But dads have power. Great power. Generational power.
As parents who have side-stepped the modern cultural current and have decided to proactively empower our children with parent-driven education - homeschooling - we must do all we can to help our children be all they can be for the Lord. And that means accessing Dad—if he is available.
First, we will look at historical and biblical proof of the generational power dads have over children. Then I will give you specific things every dad can do to maximize his home school efforts . . . in only a few minutes each day! Dads are truly the homeschooling X-Factor.
